CHANGE... Does this word scare you? Excite you? A bit of both?!
REMEMBER: WHAT DOESN’T CHALLENGE YOU DOESN’T CHANGE YOU.
Change always creates a shift, and sometimes that takes a little while to adjust to, but when approached with the right mindset it can be one of the most positive things that can happen.
The new inspiration that comes from pivoting or taking another path opens up new opportunities.
And when we are in control of our mindset and outlook towards change we can grab hold of the new possibilities and use them to create a fresh beginning, which brings a new energy and zest for life.
CHANGE WE CREATE BY CHOICE:
It takes vision and courage to create change by choice.
It starts by honestly analysing your current situation and asking yourself if you are happy with how your life and health looks and feels.
By opening your mind to what life can be if we choose it, we can then visualise our options and what that change would mean in our life.
Dreaming big is the easy part...
Where the courage has to kick in is in taking the first steps to make it happen!
If the gap between where you are and where you want to be seems too big, I recommend imagine your journey of change as being like stepping stones across a river.
You start on one side, and take one step at a time towards the place you want to be until you are finally there.
If ever you feel like giving up along the way remind yourself how far you’ve come, and it will bolster your determination to keep going.
Whatever it is, there are generally always multiple steps and time involved to make things happen.
Rather than feeling frustrated by this, embrace it!
Enjoy the journey of each step, where each one takes you closer and closer to the end result, but also creates new experiences and inspiration along the way.
A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP.
CHANGES BEYOND OUR CONTROL:
Sometimes change happens to us without it being our choice.
This can be challenging as we find ourselves in new terrain without having had time to plan the steps.
Be kind to yourself during this time, and aim to bring calm focus to the situation to open your mind to the options you have. Write down three positive opportunities this change has opened up and now made possible.
In some cases it can be the best thing that ever happened to us, as we are pushed outside our comfort zone to changes we would never have made without the push, that ends up creating new circumstances we love, or lessons we can carry through life that benefit our future.
I find writing down all my options really helps, just scribbling them wildly onto a big sheet of paper as they come into my mind without thinking about “how”, just what the possibilities are.
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING YOU CAN ALWAYS WORK OUT “HOW” - JUST START WITH DREAMING ABOUT “WHAT” YOU WANT IN LIFE AND VISUALISE WHAT THAT LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE TO INSPIRE YOU TO TAKE ACTION.
CHANGE IN MINDSET:
Changing course doesn’t always mean changing your life however. Sometimes it means changing a negative perspective or unhealthy life patterns. It starts with taking ownership of our own outlook, and being honest with taking responsibility for our own happiness.
Sometimes the answer lies in creating change within ourselves, not others or our circumstances.
Change within ourselves can be a wonderful, lifelong experience that takes us on journeys more wonderful than we could ever have imagined.
Change in the way we feel about things can be transformed by the language we use when we describe them.
Instead of “I have to go to work” try “I get to go to work today”. (Remember the other option means you have no job and that is possibly not a positive thought!)
Rather than “I’m so busy”, try “My day is full so I am going to focus on what’s important and work my way through my to-do list today”.
Don't let yourself become the victim of change, stay in a place of regret or feel bitter about the things that happen to us that are beyond our control. This will stop you clearly seeing the wonderful paths of possibility that lie before you.
Change in mindset is so easy when you shift your focus and bring energy by embracing it.
