Introducing

IKOU X BRED

Our philosophy of "restoration as resilience" anchors our dedicated boutiques and now, we are bringing that professional expertise directly to you. We have partnered with Eddie Nelson, founder of BRED, to weave her innovative "BRED Method" of breathwork into our skincare philosophy - where science meets sanctuary.

Meet Eddie Nelson

Eddie Nelson is a Breathwork & Movement Coach and the founder of BRED, a wellness practice created to help people reconnect with themselves through the power of breath and movement.

BRED was born from Eddie’s own healing journey. Through reconnecting with her breath, she began to come home to her body, feeling more grounded, present, and alive. What started as a personal practice became a deeper calling: to share the transformative potential of conscious breathing with others.

At the heart of BRED is a considered blend of breathwork and movement. Supporting moments of pause, alignment, and embodied awareness.Eddie’s approach is intuitive and accessible, inviting a return to the body as a place of awareness, regulation, and self-connection.

This collaboration grew from a shared belief in ritual, restoration, and everyday wellbeing. At IKOU, we believe in ritual as a pathway to restoration; through scent, touch, and intentional self-care. BRED shares this philosophy, working through breath and movement to create moments of pause and presence. Together, our practices offer a more holistic approach to everyday wellbeing.

Created in partnership with IKOU, this guided breathwork session by Eddie Nelson is an invitation to slow the body and quiet the mind. Settle in, press play, and allow the breath to guide you home. Below, Eddie shares her perspective in a Q&A with IKOU, exploring breathwork, embodiment, and the role of simple, intentional practices in modern life.

An invitation to slow down. To breathe. To return to self.

Q&A with Eddie Nelson

1. We're big believers that even the smallest rituals and moments have the power to change your whole mood. When life feels a bit 'always-on,' what’s your go-to micro-ritual to find your center again?

My go to micro ritual is what I call the sniff sniff sigh. Two quick inhales through the nose and one long, audible sigh out through the mouth. It takes under 30 seconds and instantly brings me back into my body. I love making it loud. It’s like physically shaking off stress. Tiny ritual, big reset!

2. There is something so grounding about the things we do every single day. What are those small, daily non-negotiables in your life - those little acts of care -that keep you feeling like yourself even when things get busy?

I love this question because it proves wellness doesn’t have to be big and dramatic. For me, it’s stepping outside barefoot first thing in the morning. I look up at the sun and usually say out loud, “How good can it get?” Grounding, sunlight and a little self hype moment. It sounds simple, but it shifts my whole state before the day even begins.

3. Skincare can often feel like just another thing on the to-do list. How did you move past the 'chore' of cleansing your face and turn it into a moment of the day you  look forward to?

I stopped treating skincare like a chore by slowing it down. Instead of rushing, I massage my face slowly, drop my shoulders and breathe properly. It becomes less about cleansing and more about having two quiet minutes just for me. It’s basically nervous system regulation disguised as skincare.

4. As someone who understands the body so well, how do you bring things like intentional breath or facial massage into your skincare? Do you have any simple tips for using your hands to help the products work deeper while helping the mind switch off?

When I bring breath into skincare, everything changes. If I’m breathing slowly, my hands move slower. More intentional. Even just gentle upward strokes and slow circles along the jaw while breathing deeply can help you switch off. When your breath slows, your mind follows.

5. IKOU was born in and inspired by the restorative landscape of the Blue Mountains. Where is your favourite place, where you feel you can really just switch off, connect to nature and fully restore?

I recently went back to Tamworth where my mum’s family is from, and I completely switched off. Barefoot walks, breathwork outside, country air. There’s something about open space and nature that instantly puts life into perspective. It’s the ultimate reset. Grateful I am able to do this.
I’ll be honest, I’m still learning this. But I’ve reframed rest as something that makes me better, not weaker. Especially as women, we are cyclical. Rest actually supports performance. When I remind myself it’s science, not laziness, the guilt is less!

6. We often think of 'unwinding' as a rare treat or a holiday luxury. What are your tips for integrating rest into everyday without feeling guilty or like it's a 'treat'

I’ll be honest, I’m still learning this. But I’ve reframed rest as something that makes me better, not weaker. Especially as women, we are cyclical. Rest actually supports performance. When I remind myself it’s science, not laziness, the guilt is less!

7. A lot of us struggle to switch off at night. What’s that one thing you do in the evening - your 'final exhale' - that tells your brain it’s officially time to stop and rest?

It’s always breathwork for me. I’ll put on a guided breathwork before bed because it gives me something to focus on. It helps me come out of my head and back into my body. It’s my signal that the day is done.

8. What does sanctuary mean to you? And  is it a physical space, a specific ritual, a state-of-mind?

Sanctuary to me is both a place and a feeling. It’s when my body feels soft, feminine and safe. When my nervous system feels calm. You can create it in a space, but ultimately it’s something you create within yourself.

9. We love the idea that your home should be a place where you can truly 'exhale.' For someone wanting to make their space feel more like a retreat, what are your top tips for using small things like a specific scent, soft lighting, or a dedicated corner to create a personal sanctuary?

I’ve started showering in the dark with just a candle lit. No overhead lights. I imagine the water washing the day off me. Add incense or a beautiful scent and suddenly your bathroom feels like a retreat.

10. If you had to pick just one IKOU  product that has earned a permanent spot on your bathroom shelf, which one is it - and what is it about this product that keeps you coming back

I am obsessed with the De Stress Organic Body Cream. The scent alone softens me, but even the name feels regulating. When I’m applying it slowly, it feels like I’m not just nourishing my skin, but calming my whole system. It’s one of those products that turns a simple moment into a ritual!

Finish on quick fire?
